Harold Pinter se fue

Como bien dijo Gustavo, el azar quiso que yo escribiera sobre Pinter pocas horas antes de su muerte, lo cual me deja con una incómoda sensación de que me lo dieron y se me murió. Quisiera recordar una vez más a Pinter con algunos de sus últimos poemas, los que hablan de su muerte cercana.

Death may be ageing

Death may be ageing
But he still has clout

But death disarms you
With his limpid light

And he’s so crafty
That you don’t know at all

Where he awaits you
To seduce your will
And to strip you naked
As you dress to kill

But death permits you
To arrange your hours

While he sucks the honey
From your lovely flowers

(April 2005)

Puede que la muerte esté vieja

Puede que la muerte esté vieja
pero todavía tiene poder

Pero la muerte te desarma
con su límpida luz

y es tan hábil
que ni te das cuenta

dónde te está esperando
para seducir tu voluntad
y dejarte desnudo
mientras te vestís para impresionar.

Pero la muerte te deja
hacer tus planes

mientras se chupa la miel
de tus bellas flores.

To my wife

I was dead and now I live
You took my hand

I blindly died
You took my hand

You watched me die
And found my life

You were my life
When I was dead

You are my life
And so I live

(Junio 2004)

A mi mujer

Estaba muerto y ahora vivo
tomaste mi mano

Morí ciegamente
tomaste mi mano

Me viste morir
y encontré mi vida

Vos eras mi vida
cuando estaba muerto

Vos sos mi vida
y así estoy vivo

Meeting

It is the dead of night,

The long dead look out towards
The new dead
Walking towards them

There is a soft heartbeat
As the dead embrace
Those who are long dead
And those of the new dead
Walking towards them

They cry and they kiss
As they meet again
For the first and last time

Encuentro

Todo está muerto en plena noche

los que llevan tiempo muertos miran hacia
los nuevos muertos
que caminan hacia ellos.

Hay un suave latir
mientras los muertos abrazan
a los que llevan tiempo muertos
y a los nuevos muertos
que caminan hacia ellos.

Lloran y se besan
al volver a encontrarse
por primera y última vez.
